Fête des Mères~

Mother's Day~ today, Sunday May 9th

En France, Fête des Mères is celebrated on June 7 this year, and was originally inaugurated by Napoleon~
It's a good day to show you these old, petite (about 2-1/2" tall) celluloid cake decorations- they've always reminded me of Mother's Day~

From a friend; she found them (a long time ago) tucked away and forgotten (a long time before that) - in the attic of her first home~

They certainly evoke alot of feeling for being so small~

Hand-detailed, their intricate shapes are die-cut~

I've used their scans in lots of different ways at the shop -- for Mother's Day, Garden Parties, and shown here: our May 2006 shop card. Now that I think about it, maybe you'll see them in a PORCH printed card again soon~

We're OPEN today, 12-5, to wrap up our MAY Market at The PORCH & Atelier. I awoke today to crisp blue skies and sunshine, and I'm wishing you the same~ TERESA

We meet the best people here~

We DO meet the best people here~ Yesterday, I asked a client 'are you having a good day?' Her pleasant reply? 'How could I not? All of these happy people shopping and having a great time?' She put my thoughts into words~

Like Laura, she's been here, too~ Seeing her smile, you can imagine how pleased we are when she graces us with a visit~

~I say 'graces', because that's how you feel when you meet her: lovely, happy, effervescent - a gorgeous smile, she's genuinely friendly, and---she loves to find and model vintage clothing here~

Like this Spring coat. Oh, the coat! A beautiful silk brocade with covered buttons, and she wears it well, doesn't she?~
We appreciate everyone who comes to The PORCH & Atelier, contributing their energy to our wonderful atmosphere - we have it pretty nice here, don't we? TERESA

MAY Market Thursday~

It's wonderful-- living above the shop! More than just convenient, it's a lifestyle for me~The Atelier north window; it's quiet and calm, pretty even in the dark; let's take a look around~

Lights on~ This 20-30's armoire arrived today. Perfect condition, lots of storage, nice size - I haven't seen one like this in quite a few years~ $295.Staging, constantly: let's group these greens/browns and create a fresh mood~

'Everything you need to know to brighten your home': 1966 DECORATING GUIDE magazine. I like how they 'framed' the photo on the cover - looks like an idea we'd see today~

This vintage tray with fairy motif makes me notice it each time I've passed it~OK, to the lower shop level - I love rustic whites with these colors. The triple botanical study (secondhand/not old, $29) looks great on that door.

We display a mix of style, age and price. The bench with lift-top storage seat is perfect for alot of rooms~

And for a different look: browns in iron, woven and wood~


The large copper bowl featured earlier this week - yes, the bottle holder just rests on top, I've set it to the side in the bowl for now~

Crisp black/white damask pattern seats are now on the four chairs. $79 for all four~

And, a cupboard -just arrived. We're looking forward to a fantasic Market Thursday, and we hope you enjoyed today's 'tour'~ TERESA

MAY Market Wednesday

It's a beautiful morning here today! I'm pleased to feature some Atelier items for you~

Just arrived last night: an Alan island! One of his mid-size cabinets, it has a glazed gray finish, reeded glass doors and a Carrera marble top.

Alan style and quality, complete with corbels and paneled sides/back.

The marble measures 51x29"; cabinet is 36" tall (counter/work height), $699. Looks like we were having a regular photo shoot here, you can see Alan on the left!

100% crystal chandelier - bling to the max~

I'll get more shots of her when she's lit today~ $295.

She's hanging over an iron daybed, complete with 6" downfilled cushion. Perfect for your porch, about 5' long (*not bed length), but plenty of room to curl up. $149.

Our word-stamped flatware garden stakes are sorted by English and French words. $4, and easy to ship~

Freshly upholstered in Ralph Lauren goods, this 'Récamier' sofa/chaise is a show-stopper. Deeply cushioned with springs, look at her turned legs and rolled arm. $325.
An original mid-Victorian piece (1850-1870); it was made in New York for it's original owner in Aurora, Illinois~ This style of furniture is named after Madame Recamier, click here for a bit of history~

Welcome to our MAY MARKET~

We're so excited to say.....Welcome to The PORCH & Atelier MAY Market! Our lower level PORCH entry is ready for you with a 'lilac' welcome. MAY is one of my favorite markets of the year~A little further into the shop - you'll see this cabinet, in the most beautiful shade of green~ Who couldn't appreciate this color?

Lots of pretty things for you - like this timeless iron rose wreath ~

And, plenty of rusty and worn, too. We have at least four smaller cabinets here; this one boasts a door with screen~

We're boasting a fresh mix of whites, new and old~Soft grays, as the shelf with hooks~

Galvanized and then --more galvanized. What a great way to use our huge outdoor planters for now. There's alot of old 'industrial' here, too~Graphic, hand-painted price signs Think about this awesome copper wine chiller. I meant to check if the bottle rack separates so you also have a huge copper bowl!Original crackled/leathery finish on this cedar chest

There are four of these chairs, newly upholstered seats on their way. Posed on a great table with that favorite aqua color peeking through~
